The
W.G. Pearson GT Magnet Elementary Tiger Band program is open
to all students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. In this year-long
elective, students may learn to play a variety of instruments,
including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone,
and percussion. Students who complete at least one full year
of study on an instrument may audition for the Advanced Band.
Founded
in 2006, the Tiger Band is the first and only elementary
band in Durham. The group performs regularly throughout the
year, at the school and all around town. In March of 2009,
the group was honored by being selected to perform at the
United States Capitol Building, where they met many dignitaries,
including US Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr, and US
Representative David Price. |
